Counting down the days
Since my return from the states, the days have been dragging on. I guess I have been so used to the excitment of packing, moving, and house hunting, and now that it has all died down the time is moving sooo slowly!!! I am literally counting down the days until Sean's return. It should be sometime in the next couple of weeks. I will post pictures of his homecoming as soon as it happens!!! I can't wait! I have a dress picked out, but now I have to worry about fitting into it!! I've been working out everyday just to get into shape and make the time pass faster.
I've also been hanging out with the girls a lot to keep my mind off the hubby. This weekend is the Mandersheid fest (Medieval festival with jousting and fun costumes at a castle) so that should be tons of fun. I'll post pictures of that event! Anything to pass the time...

Gig 'Em from the desert!!

Sean recently sent this picture for all of his Aggie friends! He flew this Texas A&M flag in his F-16 during one of the missions. As soon as he is allowed to release when and where he flew over, I will let everyone know!! (You can see the mustache he, and all of the other pilots, have grown for the deployment. They also shaved their heads before they left, but it looks like Sean's grew out a little!)

Our new home!!!
Our New Home!!!

This past weekend I took a military space-available hop down to Shaw AFB to house hunt and finalize the details of my counseling internship. It was a very interesting experience (more on that later!!). I wasn't expecting to actually buy a house, but I fell in love with an adorable home just minutes from the base and at a great price!! I knew that if I didn't snatch it up fast, some other young military couple would. So, with the go ahead from my hubby downrange (thankfully he trusts me!!) I made an offer!!! They countered, then I countered back, then....they accepted!!! The house was ours!!!! It was such an exciting experience!
After all of the details were worked out, Kate Lord (who is also in the states visiting family) and I drove to Pope AFB to try to catch a Space-A flight back to Germany. We are still waiting, but we hope to get on tonight (Wed.). Wish us luck!!!

Flying Space-A
Flying Space-A

This past week I had the coolest experience ever!!! I flew a military, space-available hop back to the states to house hunt and check out the Shaw AFB area. Flying space-a is very exciting! It’s almost like a game; you’re competing against everyone else to get a precious seat on the most uncomfortable plane ever!! It’s loud (you wear ear plugs the entire time), you sit in jump seats around the edge of the plane, there’s no movies, and there’s no food cart that serves you warm meals and drinks. But, it’s sooooo cool because you are riding with army guys who are coming home from the desert waiting to see their family. And…it’s a free trip to the states!! Can’t beat that! Here are a couple of pictures I took during the flight!

Moving on...
Moving on...
From
to
In case you haven’t heard, Sean and I will be leaving Germany :( and moving to South Carolina in September. We have mixed feelings about this. We HATE to leave Europe and the friends we’ve made in the 23rd fighter squadron, but we are looking forward to beautiful S.C. More about this later…
Since Sean is deployed I had the great pleasure of packing out the house all by myself!! It was 7 days of work, work, and more work. If you’re not familiar with a military move, here’s how it works. There are more than 1 type of shipment. First, there is the wine shipment, where they pack up any wine or alcohol you want to ship back. Then there is the “unaccompanied goods” shipment. This is for any clothes, kitchen items, and bedding that you want as soon as you get there. This shipment is flown back to the U.S. The last shipment is your “household goods”. This is the rest of your belongings and is sailed across the ocean. As you can imagine, this shipment takes a while. (I totally sound like an AFN commercial!)
This may not sound like much, but the reason it took 7 days is because no 2 packing companies can come on the same day! So smaller shipments that only take an hour to pack up, like the wine or unaccompanied goods, has to have their own day. This is like waiting for the plumber or repair man. It could be anytime between 8 and 6!! Then our household goods took 3 days to pack. I was so tired of boxes and tape after that!
One day, ANOTHER pickup was scheduled (all of the items that I had borrowed from the base like American refrigerator, washer and dryer, and some furniture) and the house was completely empty. After I had done some cleaning, I rolled out my friend’s yoga mat, threw down a pillow and took a nap! Smart huh?!
So I am happy to report that all of our belongings are now on a boat sailing back to the US. I will be shipping our new car this week :( and then I will be living out of a suitcase until we find a house in South Carolina. Just to give you an idea of how much stuff we packed up, the movers filled 10 crates (about 10 ft tall, 5 ft wide, 5 ft deep). 3 years ago we came over with 6 of these crates. Luckily we are not over our weight allowance, so I can't help thinking "Did we buy enough??"!!
P.S. I would like to thank my AWESOME husband for showing his appreciation. On Friday afternoon I was pleasantly surprised when my coworker walked into our office with a bouquet of roses and a balloon. The card read “Thanks for the hard work!”. He’s a keeper!!!
